Sopore Encounter: Indian forces neutralized two militants in Sopore, Baramulla district of on Wednesday evening. Sopore is located in the relatively calmer area of North Kashmir.

After the Sopore encounter got over, a joint team of the Army’s 22 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a ‘cordon and search’ operation in the area. Internet connections have been suspended as a safety measure by the security forces. The operation took place after the forces got information about a group of militants hiding at a suspected house in Sopore. The suspicion was confirmed when the militants in hiding fired upon the security forces. The number and the identity of militants are still unknown. Security was beefed up after this incident in the area.
Security forces are now on the lookout to ascertain if there are any more militants in the hiding and a search operation is underway. “The identity and group affiliation of the terrorists is yet to be ascertained”, a source told ANI.
Several such incidents have been reported earlier in the Jammu and Kashmir region. The valley has suffered such blows and fights where many Security personnel and citizens including children have died.
On Tuesday too, four Jammu and Kashmir policemen were killed in a militant attack on a police picket in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. Such terrorist activities stem from Pakistan region near to Jammu and Kashmir, where terrorists operate from. This region of the country keeps on facing such episodes where the militants and terrorists attack the forces and kill many innocent people.
