Sunni Terror Group – Ansar al-Furqan Behind Terror Attack in Chabahar Port

Ansar Al-Furqan is a Sunni Baloch militant organization active in Sistan and Baluchestan region. The group was established in December 2013 by a merger of Harakat al-Ansar and Hizbul-Furqan.

There is full security in Iran’s Chabahar Port where a suicide car bomb attack killed and injured a number of people on Thursday morning, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said.

Local officials said terrorists attacked the police headquarters in Chabahar, located in the southeastern province of Sistan-and-Baluchestan, with an explosives-laden vehicle on Thursday morning, local officials said.

General Pakpour, who was at the scene of the attack, said calm and security has returned to Chabahar as the Iranian security forces have brought the situation under control. He said an explosive-laden vehicle attacked the city’s police headquarters in the morning, killing and injuring a number of people.

“It was a blind terrorist attack that has had no achievement for the terrorists,” the commander stressed. The general said a number of guards at the entrance of the police headquarters have been martyred and wounded.

The so-called Ansar al-Furqan terrorist group claimed responsibility for the assault, according to reports on social media. Sistan-and-Baluchestan – which borders Pakistan — has seen several terror attacks targeting both civilians and security forces over the past years.

Iranian forces have repeatedly busted terror groups in the province, foiling their planned attacks and confiscating weapons and ammunition in the course of their security operations.

India Condemns Terror Attack

India strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Iran’s Chabahar Port. “We express our condolences to the government and the people of Iran and the families of the victims of this attack,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.
“We wish a speedy recovery to those injured. The perpetrators behind this dastardly attack should be brought to justice expeditiously. There can be no justification for any act of terror,” an MEA statement said.
