Taiwan Keen To Collaborate With ISRO for Joint Space Missions

Indian Space Agency – ISRO seems to be getting massive global attention after launching frugal and successful space missions. Now Taiwan’s space agency NSPO is seeking to collaborate ISRO for outer space exploration and tracking extreme weather conditions.

During the Bengaluru Space Expo 2018, a meeting was held between the officials of the NSPO and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in which the Taiwanese side expressed the desire for intensified collaboration.

“Taiwan is prone to typhoons while India is often disturbed by cyclones. We have Formosat-5 earth observation satellite. We are looking to collaborate with Antrix (the space arm of the ISRO) on this,” Chen said.

Formosat-5 is an Earth observation satellite which was launched in August 2017. Arrangements are on to launch Formosat-7, which is an advanced version of Formosat-5. Chen said Taiwan was also looking to collaborate with India in the area of outer space, including the Mars Orbiter Mission and Chandrayaan-1.

India also has plans to explore Mars and undertake exploration mission to Venus. Taiwan was a part of the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer-02 mission, a particle physics detector on the International Space Station, with a purpose to search outer space for antimatter and dark matter as part of an investigation into the origin of the universe.
