After the US and Guatemala, which is the third country to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem? On May 21, a grand opening ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of the Embassy of Paraguay in Jerusalem. Earlier, in a controversial move, the United States and Guatemala shifted their embassies to Jerusalem. The commemoration was attended by the President of Paraguay, Horacio Cartes and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Palestinian authorities condemned the decision of Paraguay to shift their embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, calling the move as “irresponsible and provocative.” Romania, the Czech Republic and Honduras are some of the nations contemplating to move their embassies to Jerusalem.
On 14th May 2018, Jerusalem witnessed “a grand, but bloody” opening ceremony of the American Embassy. Thousands of the demonstrators protested against the American move which resulted in the deaths of 60 civilians and injuring over 1000 people. This lethal action against the Palestinian protestors may lead to investigations and actions by the international legal authorities, against PM Netanyahu’s government.
Palestinian Protest and Kashmir Unrest: Why are the Casualties So High?
According to Israel Defence Forces, there was a hostile mob at the border, with many demonstrators hurling rocks and petrol bombs. Around eight protestors with wire-cutters tried to cross the border with armed weapons and were shot dead by the Israeli snipers. An Israeli Army official emphasized that the troops tried using non-lethal methods to curb the Palestinian protestors, but the methods failed.
