Time To Wake Up On Kashmir Before Its Too Late – US Publications Reminds The World

Published

on

US publication – The New York Times continues its covert anti-India campaign over Kashmir. The NYT on Thursday published a scathing editorial on the global response to the Indian revocation of Article 370 from the volatile region of Jammu and Kashmir while lamenting what is calls in-humanitarian curfew.

Imran Khan Admits Pakistan Will Lose A Conventional War Against Arch-Rival India

In the editorial, the NYT displayed disappointment and outrage over the muted global response to the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir while urging the United Nations to act before it was too late.

NYT referenced the UN General Assembly speech of Pakistan PM Imran Khan in which he cautioned about Kashmir being a nuclear flash-point in South Asia and urged the UN to act.

However, the editorial also forewarned that resting hopes on the United Nations seemed hopeless, given the approach it had taken on the Kashmir dispute in recent decades.

“The United Nations’ lack of resolve is a sad sign of the dysfunction in international diplomacy as American leadership declines and divisions among world powers grow,” contends the editorial.

The author added that though the United States President Donald Trump had offered to mediate, his warm relations with the increasingly autocratic Narendra Modi put doubts over him being an honest broker.

According to the NYT, countries were unwilling to risk crossing Modi and lose access to India’s huge market. Pressure from India had also helped keep Jammu and Kashmir off the Security Council’s agenda, until recently.

Modi Does Not Understand That India-Pakistan Dispute Can Get Horribly Wrong – Imran Khan

The editorial called on India to avoid disaster by removing the siege in the region, ease movement across the border between border zones, and allow independent investigators to look into alleged human rights violations.

However, the publication cautioned that these hopes might be in vain given the Hindu-supremacist policies of Indian PM Narendra Modi, and India’s wrongful assertion that it could control a potential conflict over Kashmir.
