The United States military is the most powerful armed force in the world. With more than 3,000 aircraft belonging to the US Navy alone – a fleet that rivals most regular air forces – 11 aircraft carriers, another 5,000 aircraft-strong air force, and the US Army and the US Marine Corps, the force Washington can muster is genuinely terrifying.

Even Russia and China realize this. To a large extent, their refusal to enter military blocs against the US is driven by a genuine desire for multipolarity, de-escalation, and peaceful coexistence.
Even if a war remains confined in the conventional realm under the nuclear umbrella, the damage the US military can do to Russian and Chinese forces is devastating.
If Russia and China, whose militaries are technically proficient enough to beat stealth and erode the US advantage, even the converse is true. A technologically prime military like the US too can overturn the disadvantages imposed by having overly advanced platforms like the F-22 and the F-35.
Carriers and aircraft aside, the US can muster dozens of highly advanced submarines, space assets, and a landing force – if it comes down to it – to seriously challenge China and Russia even on land.
This is why Russia and China developed anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) technologies and missiles – to prevent the main thrust of the American military from ever getting close and avoid taking it head-on.
Put differently, deterrence holds not only because the US is wary of fighting its competitors directly but because the two would also want to avoid a direct clash with the superpower.
But interestingly, it turns out that what truly stumps the US military in the most non-military and subtle way, without appearing like a conventional threat, is something that “does not belong to Russia or China.”
This seemingly sensationalist implication is not the work of eccentric conspiracy theorists or crazed scientists. Still, it is now the subject of long-running Congressional investigations, in some of which US military members have made indirect suggestions.
Sensational Statements
A recent report by The Sun is fascinating and terrifying in what it has uncovered.
In a sharp contradiction to what US military officials told their Congressional panels in May this year, a serving United States Air Force (USAF) official has revealed that they regularly fire at Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP).
This follows a part of long-running controversy based on Congressional hearings since 2017, where service members have reported their radars being jammed and communications blacked out.
“The Air Force routinely observes and even kinetically engages UAP in operationally sensitive areas worldwide to this day. While some UAP is eventually identified, too often, others are hastily dismissed outright due to an inability to properly classify, based on characteristics displayed and observed,” The Sun quoted the unnamed US military serviceman.
However, Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence Scott Bray had previously denied discharging fire at the UAPs while responding to a question from Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi from Illinois.
However, Bray admitted that there have been some sightings that US officials “just can’t’ explain.” Some of the most famous footage shows UAP/UFOs moving seamlessly between the sea and the air, while US submarines reported detecting objects moving at unprecedented speeds and maneuverability beyond human-made craft.
For instance, pilots over the years, having spotted hazy-looking UAVs, say that being incredibly fast-moving and nimble objects should still have essential aerodynamic characteristics like having some form of propulsion/exhaust and latent kinetic energy.
The objects are shown moving without any thrust at speeds nearly at Mach 1.5 and suddenly changing direction, stopping on a dime, or accelerating in a way that looks like it is just shooting ahead.
“There are a small handful of cases in which we have more data than our analysis simply hasn’t’ been able to fully pull together a picture of what happened,” adding that the UFO/UAPs had “unexpected flight characteristics,” Bray himself said before Congress.
The Congressional probes were themselves inspired by the work of investigative reporters Jeremy Corbell and George Knapp. They obtained and released a trove of visual evidence of UFOs being tracked by the US military in 2021.
The videos combine the navy’s radar screens and thermal and infrared recordings from the electro-optical tracking systems (EOTS) aboard US Navy warships, helicopters, reconnaissance aircraft, and fighter jets. Bray’s interview before the Congressional committee was after another hearing on May 17 chaired by Congressman Andre Carson, which was later switched to a closed-door hearing following a request by Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security Ronald S. Moultrie.
US Fighter Pilot Account & Franc’s Massive Study
The issue garnered international attention after releasing the 2004 footage captured by Commander Chad Underwood, now known as the “tic-tac” drone event, where he reported strobe lines on his radar screen, which he later said were “jam lines” to Corbell.
Underwood, in his interview with Corbell, replies in the affirmative when asked if his radar going awry after detecting the ‘tic tac’ UFO/UAP was an “indication of an active jamming.”
“Once I got the target of interest on my radar, I took a ‘lock’, and that’s when all the funky things started happening. The erratic nature of the ‘tic tac’, the airspeed, was telling to me.
Then we started seeing jam ‘strobe lines.’ Strobe lines are vertical lines that show up on your radar that are indications that you are being jammed.
The Pentagon released a first-of-its-kind report on UAP sightings with encounters in June last year with more than 100 unexplained run-ins of the objects with the military. The US also confirmed the existence of the Advanced Threat Identification Program (ATIP), which existed until 2017 and was replaced by the UAP Task Force in 2020.
But US ally France has led in compiling and releasing bombshell findings since 1977, analyzing 8,000 encounters over the last 40 years. Of these, 4% (300) remain truly unexplained. Known as Groupe d’Etudes et d’Informations sur les Phenomenes Aerospatiaux Non-identifies (GEIPAN), based in Toulouse and coming under France’s space agency CNES.
The study reports 81 cases where pilots encountered electromagnetic effects on or more aircraft systems, impacting the radio, autopilot (3 cases) to Fire Control Systems in military aircraft that rendered weapons unresponsive (4 incidents). In 31 cases, pilots had to evasive action to avoid collision with the UAP/UFO, injuring many passengers in five cases.
