China wouldn’t support this conflict: US

Assistant Secretary of Defence for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, Randall Shriver stated that he doesn’t think that China in any way would want such conflict or support the idea of such acts. He said this in response to the question asked about China’s support to Pakistan’s stance on the abrogation of Article 370 and the division of the state into two union territories.

The top Pentagon official stated that China may have echoed Pakistan’s position on Kashmir at various international platforms and through diplomacy channels but China wouldn’t back the idea of armed conflict.

China and Pakistan have a relationship of deep cooperation further strengthened by Beijing’s colossal investment in China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Article 370 and Article 35 A were declared null by the government of India in August and since then tensions have been escalating between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. These articles (370 and 35A) rendered special provisions to the state of Jammu and Kashmir for more than seven decades and the government of India decided to scrap them to fully integrate the region with rest of the mainland.

These comments from the top Pentagon Official came during the ongoing visit of India’s Foreign Minister. He also stated that he will hold consultations with S Jaishankar, India’s Foreign Affairs Minister on this concerning issue.
