US To Back Israeli Policy Of Displacing and Replacing Palestinian People

Two days after the 71st anniversary of the Naqba, the US is set to disregard the Palestinian rights and approve ‘Israeli colonial policies’. Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki said throughout the decades, Israeli policies aimed to displace and replace the Palestinian people and ensured confinement of the Palestinians and expansion of the Israeli settlers.

Jerusalem Should Be Capital of Both Israel and Palestine: UN Secretary-General

According to the latest statistics, about 650,000 settlers currently live on 164 Jewish-only settlements built illegally throughout the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. These territories were occupied during the 1967 Middle East war. Experts say Palestinians and Israelis have laid claim on these territories for a future state.

Malki criticized US President Donald Trump’s ‘deal of the century’. He said it offered Palestinians ‘no independence, no sovereignty, no freedom and no justice’. Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump’s husband and US President’s son-in-law, had engineered the deal. He said this would result in both sides being much better off.

The Palestinian Foreign Minister said the US administration had stated that the ‘plan’ would be disclosed sometime next month. “One way or the other, they are the ones who are delusional, not us. This cannot be the future of Palestine.” However, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman in an op-ed highlighted that Trump’s decision to recognize the Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights fulfils a UN Security Council Resolution.

But Malki says that it shows that the United States is inclined towards the narrative of Israel extreme right wing. “They are trying to bend the law to accommodate violations instead of ending violations to uphold the law.”
