The United States is “very concerned by reports of detentions and the continued restrictions on the residents in Jammu and Kashmir,” the US State Department said on Thursday. “We urge respect for human rights, compliance with legal procedures, and inclusive dialogue with those affected,” according to a statement issued by the department.
US Supports Direct Dialogue Between India and Pakistan To Resolve Kashmir Dispute
“We welcome Prime Minister Modi’s statement that Jammu and Kashmir will soon return to a normal political status… We continue to support direct dialogue between India and Pakistan on Kashmir and other issues of concern,” the spokesperson added.
The US also called for all stakeholders to maintain peace. “We call on all parties to maintain peace and stability along the Line of Control,” the statement read.

As the Indian government’s lockdown of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the Muslim dominated Kashmir Valley continued for the 25th consecutive day on Thursday, hundreds of Kashmiris reportedly defied the restrictions and took to the streets to stage resentment against New Delhi.
Indian troops and police personnel are aggressively trying to curb the violent protest that have been emanating from the Kashmir valley. Plethora of protests have been arrested in the Kashmir Valley since August 5, when the Indian government, led by Modi Government revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, paving the way for outsiders to purchase land and settle there — a move which many believe is aimed at changing the demography of the Muslim-dominated region.
