Will Israa al-Ghomgham, the Women Rights Activist of Saudi Arabia be sentenced to death? She was presented before the Specialised Criminal Court in Riyadh. During the hearing, the public prosecutor urged the judge to reward a death sentence for six defendants. These six defendants also include Ghomgham’s husband Moussa al-Hashem.

Ghomgham started irking the government in 2011 when she launched protests in Qatif against the discrimination of Shia Muslims. He movement and protests were also aimed at demanding the release of political prisoners. The human rights groups and activists the female activist did not have enough money to represent herself in the court. Later a lawyer offered free legal services to the detained female activist after her father filed a petition for funds to provide legal aid for her daughter.

According to PressTV, many media outlets reported that Ghomgham had already been executed on the orders of the court. Videos went viral about the beheading of Ghomgham but later it was found that the video was from an earlier beheading.

Even in the contemporary world, the conventional and orthodox Islamic nations have failed to evolve along with other parts of the world in terms of women emancipation.
