Is The Afghan Government Behind The Killing of Maulana Samiul Haq?

Maulana Samiul Haq – Chief of the faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S) and also called “Father of the Taliban” was assassinated in a knife attack at his residence in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on Friday evening. The question is – what is the link of the Afghan Government with the brutal killing of Maulana Samiul Haq?

His son Maulana Hamidul told the media that his father was at his residence while his driver cum security guard, was not present when the attacker scaled the wall to attack him with the knife. The attacker stabbed him several times in the chest and the head before fleeing. Maulana was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Maulana Hamidul Haq revealed that his father was receiving threats from the Afghan government. Last month, a high-profile delegation from Afghanistan sought assistance from Maulana Samiul Haq to put an end to the 17-year-old bloody conflict in Afghanistan. The Maulana, however, had refused and told the Afghan delegation that it was not possible for him to help resolve an intricate issue like the Afghan conflict. What else did they discuss and what was the eventual outcome of the meeting cannot be ascertained at this point.

Maulana Samiul Haq’s assassination shocked the entire country as political leaders and religious scholars have denounced the high-profile killing, asking the administration to bring the offenders to justice. Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently in China on an official visit, has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
