Awantipora Encounter: Indian Army Kills 3 Militants In Restive South Kashmir; Toll Rises To 53

In the Awantipora encounter today in district Pulwama, South Kashmir, 2 militants and one associate have been neutralized by the Indian security forces.

Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) in Goripora in the early hours of Saturday but the operation soon turned into an encounter as the militants fired at the soldiers, forcing the latter to retaliate.

Inspector-General of Police Vijay Kumar (IPS) said that two militants, one militant associate were killed in a gunfight. However the identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained, the IGP said.

53 terrorist Killed So Far in Jammu and Kashmir

Fifty terrorists, including several top commanders of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), have been neutralized by the Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir this year so far, officials said on Friday (excluding the today’s figures which would take the toll to 53)

Seventeen soldiers lost their lives while fighting the terrorists while the militants also killed nine civilians in the last four months, the officials said. As per reports, 50 militants have been eliminated this year out of which 18 were neutralized during the COVID-19 lockdown.
