Cross Border Shelling, Infiltration Attempts Highest Since A Decade – Reports

India-Pakistan row over the Kashmir dispute seems to be escalating almost to a war-like situation as locals living in villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Tangdhar sector have reported extremely heavy exchange of shelling between two nuclear-armed nations on 30th July.

As the Indian Army retaliated, inputs and intercepts suggested that Pakistani military establishments were hit and many Pakistani army soldiers as per unconfirmed reports were killed.

Since then, the situation has calmed down along the LoC between India and Pakistan with but infiltration attempts continue. Since the removal of Article 370, there have been no ceasefire violations but terrorist infiltration has increased dramatically.

According to reports in India Today, a bus driver – Arshad Ahmed Khan suffered a heart attack and died while he was driving when the shelling started. Khan is survived by his wife and three children. “Usually there are 40-50 people during namaz in the mosque. Luckily, nobody was there that day otherwise many would have died,” said Khalil-Ur-Rehman, the local sarpanch.

According to reports, Pakistan resorted to unilateral artillery fire. There were ceasefire violations in Keran, Gurez, and Macchil, but that fizzled out as there was early detection. The infiltration attempt sponsored and planned by Pakistan was to push the terrorists into Kashmir which explained the extremely heavy shelling across by the Pakistan Army.

Earlier, Pakistan Army COAS – General Qamar Javed Bajwa today affirmed that Pakistan Army will fully support the Kashmiris in their quest for freedom and said they are willing to go to any extent to fulfil their obligations”.

He said India was losing credibility on the international front as the people of Jammu and Kashmir have opposed the Modi government’s decision. “The secular India of Nehru and Gandhi is dead. I foresee further repression; abrogation of Article 370 will lead to more bloodbath in IoK.”

“India wants to completely occupy Jammu and Kashmir. Modi’s India is the India of Hindutva.” He said the global Muslim community will have to play an effective role to resolve the Kashmir issue.
