Did Russia Acquire Italian Beretta ARX160 Assault Rifles For Its Special Forces?

Russian Special Operations Forces were reportedly seen carrying the Italian-made Beretta ARX160 assault rifles, which were developed as part of Italy’s Future Soldier program.

The modular assault rifles were spotted by military experts, who identified them as the Italian ARX160 rifles. A group of commandos belonging to the Russian Special Operations Forces, commonly referred to as SSO, was seen carrying these weapons.

The special force group is a structural and independent unit of the Russian Armed Forces that was established in 2012.

They are said to be highly mobile, well-trained, and equipped, constant combat prepared special operations force belonging to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The SSO, tasked with special missions, operates both within and outside Russia. It could not be independently verified if Russia has signed any deals with Italy for the Beretta ARX160 assault rifles.

Manufactured by Italian company Beretta, the ARX160 rifle has been developed for the Italian Armed Forces as part of the Soldato Futuro (‘Future Soldier’) program.

The ARX160 assault rifle was launched in 2008 as a commercial weapon system that was independent of the ‘Soldato Futuro’ ensemble, complete with a companion single-shot 40×46mm NATO low-velocity grenade launcher, known as the GLX160.

The GLX160 can be mounted underneath the rifle or utilized with an ad hoc stock system as a stand-alone weapon.

The rifles contain six swivels carrying sling, a Mil-spec Picatinny rail allows for 100% compatibility with any available sights or accessories.

It is configurable with a silencer, laser aiming systems, night vision, tactical torch, and grenade launcher.

“The ARX160 is a .22 LR tactical training rifle that does not cut corners. With this rifle, you get serious features for serious training. Ambidextrous controls, endless accessorization options, and the look and operation of the centerfire ARX100, this is a rifle that won’t let down even the most demanding shooter,” according to Beretta’s official website.
