Former J&K Chief Minister: Government Crackdown Represents An Arbitrary Act

Former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti questioned the government crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmiri separatists leaders. She said that she fails to understand how such an arbitrary move will solve the Kashmir issue, Mufti questioned.

India Deploys Heavy Contingent of Paramilitary Troops in Kashmir Valley

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister was reacting to the government crackdown on separatists and Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu. JKLF chairman Mohammad including its chief Abdul Hamid Fayaz, have already been arrested in night-long raids by security forces.

Mehbooba tweeted saying, “In the past 24 hours, Hurriyat leaders & workers of Jamaat organisation have been arrested. “Under what legal grounds are their arrests justified? You can imprison a person but not his ideas,” she added.

Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also condemned the detention of JKLF chief Yasin Malik’s and the government crackdown on the Jamaat-e-Islami in the Kashmir valley, saying “force and intimidation would only worsen the situation”.

The State government has also requested for deployment of additional Paramilitary Forces in Kashmir on urgent basis. “We have to urgently deploy additional CAPFs in Jammu and Kashmir. It is requested to provide 100 companies of CAPFs (CRPF-45, BSF-35, SSB-10, and ITBP-10) to the government of J&K with immediate effect and till further orders,” states the Ministry of Home Affairs order.
