India Confirms Meeting Taliban in Moscow For Afghan Peace Process

India supports the efforts of Russia in the Afghan Peace Process and will be taking part in the Moscow meeting. India has been very reluctant to engage the Taliban – which Delhi sees as a puppet of Pakistan and a terrorist organization. The meeting confirmation was reported in Russian Media – Tass.

“We need to understand that India does not recognize the Taliban” in any form. Our position is that there are no “bad” or “good” terrorists – they are all bad. New Delhi can officially participate in any “or negotiations on Afghanistan subject to the presence of representatives of the Afghan government.

According to the source, at the meeting on Afghanistan in Moscow, India will be represented by two well-known diplomats, now retired – the former Indian ambassador to Afghanistan, Amar Sinha, and the former Indian ambassador to Pakistan, TCA Raghavan.

“We support the efforts of Russia in the Afghan settlement, we do not intend to stand aside,” the source added. He noted that Afghanistan remains one of the most important areas of Indian foreign policy.

Another source at the Indian Foreign Ministry stated that the decision of New Delhi to send unofficial representatives to Moscow was made after “frank consultations” with Kabul.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the second meeting on the Afghanistan peace process at the level of deputy foreign ministers and special representatives will be held in Moscow on November 9. This is for the first time, a delegation of the political office of the radical Taliban movement based in Doha will participate in the international meeting of this level.

Invitations to participate in the event were sent to Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the United States. The meeting will be opened by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
