India Fast-Tracks Kartarpur Corridor Project with Pakistan

Indian Ministry of Home Affairs organised the second round of conference for successful implementation of Kartarpur corridor project. Indian delegates are now ready to send a proposal on Kartarpur corridor to Pakistan. 

The meeting for implementation of Kartarpur corridor was chaired by Union home secretary Rajiv Gauba and accompanied by Punjab Chief secretary Karan Avtar Singh and Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria.

Karan Avtar Singh, the Punjab chief secretary said: “All concerned GOI stakeholders and Indian high commissioner Ajay Bisaria attended the meeting. We discussed aspects of the agreement that we want to finalise with Pakistan. We are hopeful that we will send the draft proposal to Pakistan and complete legal modalities within a month.”

“Land acquisition work is in progress. This involves four stages, we are in the second stage as of now. We are hopeful that in a month and a half we will complete this process”, Singh said.

India invited Pakistani delegates to present the framework of the corridor and suggested two dates to begin construction work at Kartarpur corridor. Pakistan has not responded to the offer as yet.

Last year, India approved the building of Kartarpur corridor on the Indian side so that pilgrims can get access to Gurudwara and celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. Later, Pakistan declared that it will also construct a corridor on its side of the border.
