India to Build 100 New Airports Worth 60 billion USD

Airports in India seems to be sprouting. Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu made an announcement that India is planning to build around 100 airports in next 10 to 15 years at an estimated cost of 60 billion US dollars, which is about Rs. 4.2 lakh crore.

Indian airlines are growing rapidly among the aviation sector in the world and have recorded 50 months of double-digit traffic growth. These airports are to be constructed through a public-private partnership, Prabhu said. He also said the government is also working on a cargo policy.

According to global airlines’ grouping IATA, India is expected to overtake Germany, Japan, Spain and the UK within the next ten years to become the world’s third largest air passenger market.
