Indian Farmers to Benefit From US-China Trade War ?

Will Indian farmers get benefit from the trade war between China and the United States? It is being said that the farmers who produce soybean and white mustard may get the benefit. While China had banned seven years ago purchase of white mustard produced in India citing poor quality as the reason, it is now being heard that the Indian Embassy in China has demanded to remove the ban as it is the source of proteins for mustard animals.

Also, India is considering increasing China’s soybean import to take advantage of the trade war. China has so far been taking soybean from the US, in which there has been a cut after the trade war. Currently, the production of white mustard and soybean is declining in India, but if China removes the ban, it will prove to be a good opportunity for the farmers.

It is worth to mention here that in 2015-16, production of white mustard in India was 6,820 kg. It is produced extensively in Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. If talked about the production of soybean, it was 13 million tonnes in 2016-17. Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan are its primary producers. However, due to scarcity of rainfall and poor crop failure, its production was declined.
