US-Iran War of Words Intensifies; Tehran Threatens to Block Oil Routes

Can Tehran actually block the Strait of Hormuz and provoke US-Iran War? After the US withdrew from the JCPOA Deal (Iran Nuclear Deal), the US is constantly threatening Iran and its allies with stringent economic sanctions. Hitting aggressively back at the US, Iran has refused to give in to pressures and threatened severe repercussions, including blocking oil transit routes through the strategic, Strait of Hormuz.

As reported by Reuters, Iran will move to block the Strait of Hormuz if the US-Iran conflict ends in sanctions on Iran. The Strait of Hormuz will be then blocked for the movement of oil from the Persian Gulf.

The deputy commander of the Sarallah military base said that Iran would not let any oil shipment pass the Strait of Hormuz if the US goes ahead with the sanctions. After withdrawing from the Iran Nuclear Deal, the US promised to reimpose sanctions on Iran as well as add new ones.

Iran-US Dispute

This is not the first time Iran has gone out giving bold warnings to the United States. Before this, the leader of Iran said that the US will be brought to its feet if the US does not mend its ways. Besides this, the representative of Iran at OPEC also warned the US. He said that the efforts of the Trump Administration to block oil exports from Iran and take the US-Iran conflict forward will make only the US regret.

Import from Iranian Oil

The United States had given an ultimatum to Iran’s oil importers to reduce oil trade to zero till November. The US also stated that If the nations don’t stop their oil imports from Iran then they would be liable to similar sanctions. India and China are among the largest oil importers from Iran.
