Israel Will Not Let Iran Create a Military Base in Syria – Israel to Russia

Is Iran looking to create a military base in Syria? Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said at the weekly meeting of the Israeli government that the military experts of Russia and Israel should meet to discuss coordination on Syria and evaluate the Iranian presence there.

“I spoke yesterday with Russian President Vladimir Putin. We agreed that the delegation of the Russian and Israeli armies on coordination on Syria will meet as soon as possible. I hope in the coming days, most likely, in Moscow.

And our meeting with President Putin will be held later, “said Netanyahu, whose statements were distributed on Sunday by his office.

A telephone conversation between Putin and Netanyahu took place at the initiative of the Israeli side, the Kremlin’s press service said on Saturday, noting that an agreement had been reached “to work out the question of holding a regular personal meeting between the leaders of the two countries.”

“This [telephone call] is a continuation of the conversation held in Paris, which has become very important to ensure the continuation of coordination that has existed for several years between the Russian army and the Israel Defense Forces,” said Netanyahu on Sunday. The leaders held a brief meeting in Paris on November 11 on the sidelines of events dedicated to the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Netanyahu also said at a cabinet meeting on Sunday that he told the Russian leader on Saturday that Israel “will continue its policy of preventing Iran from creating military bases in Syria and will continue to act against the transfer of precision weapons to the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon and against Hezbollah tunnels,” dug into Israeli territory.”
On Tuesday, the Israeli army launched the Northern Shield military operation near the border with Lebanon to detect and neutralize the Shiite Lebanese organization of underground passages dug by militants into the territory of the Jewish state.
