Indian cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has accepted Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s invitation to attend the inaugural ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor, which is scheduled to be held on November 9.

As per reports, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Faisal Javed had contacted Navjot Singh Sidhu and invited the controversial politician to the historic event which is also dubbed as a breakthrough project in the history of two bitter neighbours.

The former cricket star accepted the invitation wholeheartedly while thanking PM Khan for the warm gesture of hospitality. Sidhu said the Sikh community all over the world looks forward to visit their holy shrine associated with their spiritual leader Baba Guru Nanak, adding that he is honoured to be a part of the historical inauguration.

“The Kartarpur Corridor agreement sends a positive message to millions of  Sikhs around the world,” he said.

Earlier, Pakistan PM Imran Khan announced that Pakistan is all set to open its doors for the Sikh community from across the globe by opening the Kartarpur Corridor on November 9.

Khan said the world’s largest Gurdwara will be visited by Sikhs from across India and other parts of the world. He said this will become a major religious hub for the Sikh community and will boost the local economy.

It will also result in earning foreign exchange for the country besides creating jobs in different sectors, including travel and hospitality, PM Khan added.

Pakistan had handed over the final draft agreement for the Kartarpur Corridor to India. In the final draft agreement, Islamabad has kept a service fee of $20 for Sikh pilgrims visiting the Corridor from the Indian side, unchanged. As many as 5,000 Sikh pilgrims can visit Kartarpur daily and Pakistan will consider the possibility of allowing more pilgrims on special occasions.
