According to the Pakistani embassy sources in Beijing, the girls were sent to Pakistan after they received complaints. Recently, several reports about Chinese men involved in fake marriages with Pakistani girls for trafficking them to China emerged.

The girls were married off to Chinese nationals and then sent to China allegedly for prostitution. Some reports suggest that Pakistani girls were given threats of organ harvesting when refused to do prostitution.

Following the infamous scandal, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) came into action and launched a crackdown against fake marriages and human trafficking operations by Chinese gangs across Punjab.

The FIA Lahore Zone-I busted a Chinese gang from Johar Town and arrested 11 Chinese nationals and their two Pakistani facilitators. The gang was allegedly forcing Pakistan girls into prostitution after promising them a lawful marriage and prosperous future.

On May 10, the FIA arrested two Chinese nationals at the Islamabad airport, as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Ministry of Public Security of China has, meanwhile, sent a task force to Pakistan to cooperate with its law enforcement agencies in their crackdown on Chinese gangs involved in fake marriages with Pakistani girls for trafficking them to China allegedly for organ harvesting and prostitution.
