China has also invested heavily in Pakistan under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which is a part of the One Belt One Road initiative of China. It’s a project with an estimated cost of USD 62 billion and includes several highways, ports, railway projects and other modern-day infrastructural amenities.

Pakistan has been critical of the US ever since Donald Trump called-off the meeting with representatives of Taliban which was scheduled in order to progress the peace deal in Afghanistan which will pave way for the withdrawal of the US troops from Afghanistan.

Imran Khan also stated during his interaction with the media that the US has achieved nothing out of spending trillions of dollars for maintaining its presence in Afghanistan.

Pakistan would want the Afghanistan peace process to reach its final destination soon as it wants to draw the focus of the international community on what Islamabad terms as atrocities in Jammu and Kashmir. A peace deal in Afghanistan will also support other diplomatic interests of Pakistan and will give it an opportunity to restructure its ties with the US.
