Pakistan’s Top Military Brass, PM Khan Hold Crucial Discussion On Kashmir, Indian Army’s Invasion Threat

Pakistan PM Imran Khan chaired the meeting with top military brass including Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and warned India against belligerent rhetorics which could endanger regional peace and stability.

The meeting was held a day after the United Nations Security Council’s informal closed-door discussions on Jammu and Kashmir. Much to the disappointment of Islamabad, the meeting did not yield any substantial result and all member nations advised both India and Pakstan to resolve their differences bilaterally.

PM Khan in a tweet stated: J&K dispute must be resolved in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions & the will of the Kashmiri people. We will continue to provide moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people until they secure their inalienable right to self-determination.

The participants discussed the preparations for the Kashmir Day observed on Feb 5 every year to express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This year’s Kashmir Day would have added significance because it would be the first such observance since India annexed the valley in Aug 2019. It was decided that the day would be observed in “a befitting manner”.

“The participants condemned India’s communication blockade and lockdown of Kashmiri residents while reaffirmed Pakistan’s unshakable commitment towards the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination.

Khan had earlier tweeted: “J&K dispute must be resolved in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions & the will of the Kashmiri people. We will continue to provide moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people until they secure their inalienable right to self-determination.”

The meeting also discussed the provocative statements recently made by Indian political and military leaders, especially the new army chief Gen MM Naravane. Earlier, after threatening to carry out “preemptive strikes” in Pakistan, Gen Naravane went one step ahead and threatened that his forces would take steps to take control of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (Pakistan-Controlled-Kashmir) if the Indian government gave such an order.
