Russia Invites India for Construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh

The Rooppur nuclear power plant is under construction at Rooppur, adjoining Paskey, 87 miles west of Dhaka. For the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh, Russia has welcomed the participation of Indian organizations in its development. This was stated by the First Deputy Director General for operations management of Russia’s state-run nuclear corporation Rosatom Alexander Lokshin, according to Tass.

“A trilateral collaboration agreement was signed in March 2018 in the Russian Capital, and we welcome the participation of Indian corporations. The concern is about the delivery of materials, specific types of equipment and construction and installation works. We will be delighted if Indian organizations with experience of Kudankulam construction participate in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction,” Lokshin said.

The Rooppur nuclear power plant construction is performed according to the Russian-Bangladesh agreement which was signed on November 2, 2011. On December 25, 2015, the General Contract for designing, construction and commissioning of two NPP power units based on 1200 Mwe VVER-reactors each on the Rooppur NPP site was signed. On July 8, 2018, the Bangladeshi Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority awarded a license for design and construction of Rooppur NPP’s second power plant.
