Russia To Equip Its 5th-Gen Sukhoi Su-57 Fighter Jets With A Lethal, Game-Changing Missile — Reports

Russia is likely to equip its most-advanced fifth-gen Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighters with a new anti-ship missile to eliminate maritime threats.

Developed by Moscow-headquartered aerospace company Sukhoi, Su-57 is a single-seat, twin-engine, multi-role aircraft designed to destroy all types of air, ground, and naval targets.

Why China’s New Stealth Fighter Could Evenly Match US’ F-35 Jet & Overwhelm The Indian Rafales?

The fighter jet possesses supercruise, supermaneuverability, along advanced avionics to surpass the capabilities of the prior generation fighters.

An anti-ship missile is a guided missile that can be used against ships and large boats. While some anti-ship missiles belong to the sea skimming variety, there are others that use a combination of inertial guidance and active radar homing.

Sea skimming is the technique used by many anti-ship missiles and fighter aircraft to avoid radar, infrared detection, and to lower the probability of being shot down while approaching the target.

The Su-57 fighter already makes use of stealth technology to evade enemy radars just like the American fifth-generation stealth fighter jet duo of F-35 Lightning II and F-22 Raptor.

The Russian-built fighter jet employs a broad use of composite materials which enables it to go undetected on the radars of other aircraft.

As reported by Russian news agency TASS, Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko had visited the Detal Design Bureau, which is developing the country’s new anti-ship missile.

“Today the enterprise is working on developing an active homing warhead for the promising anti-ship missile that is planned to be carried by the Su-57 fighter as well,” said Krivoruchko.

Earlier, it had also been reported that tests were on for the possible integration of hypersonic missiles into the Su-57 fighter jet.

Russia has continuously been working to improve its most advanced Su-57 fighter, which can attain supersonic cruising speed and is furnished with the most advanced onboard radio-electronic equipment.
