Shopian Encounter: 2 Militants Killed in Shopian as Crackdown Intensifies in Kashmir Valley

Shopian Encounter: Two militants were killed today on Tuesday in Shopian Encounter when the Indian security forces neutralized holed up militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district. The encounter started late Monday evening. Both the militants were locals according to ANI. 

The search operation is currently underway. Police sources said two militants were killed today in a pre-dawn encounter in Awneera village of Shopian district.

“Security forces started a cordon and search operation in Awneera village of Shopian district yesterday evening following information about some militants hiding there,” police sources said.

They said, “When challenged today morning, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering an encounter in which one militant has been killed.”

The two slain militants have been identified as Sayar Ahmad Bhat, son of Sanauallah of Manchowa Kulgam, and Shakir Ahmad Wagay of Awneera Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir. The two were affiliated with Ansar Gazwatul Hind (AGH) militant outfit. They were wanted in several cases.
