Spain Joins Italy In Over 10,000 Fatalities Due To Coronavirus Pandemic: Ministry

Spain has joined the scary list of nations where deaths due to coronavirus has crossed 10,000. The number of coronavirus cases in Spain has reached 110,238, the country’s Health Ministry said on Thursday. According to the ministry, the death toll has risen to 10,003, and 26,743 patients have recovered.

Spain reported its first coronavirus case on January 31. The number of patients started to grow quickly after the pandemic impacted Italy. On March 14, the Spanish Council of Ministers declared a high alert over the coronavirus, restricting the movement of people across the country.

The new figures come a day after the UK and the US also reported their highest number of casualties in a single day since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The US recorded 884 coronavirus deaths on Wednesday, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.

In the UK, a further 563 people died from COVID-19, in what PM Boris Johnson described on Wednesday as a “sad, sad day”. Globally, over 938,000 have been diagnosed with the virus, and some 194,400 have recovered. Nearly 47,200 people have died from the disease, which was first discovered in China late last year.
