“We have been waiting for the Doha Peace Conference for so long,” wrote US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Twitter. The Intra Afghan Conference for Peace in #Doha has been a long time coming. It’s great to see senior government, civil society, women, and Taliban representatives at one table together.

All Americans should be glad to see Afghans sitting with Afghans to begin the tough task of ending their country’s conflict and building a shared future together.

At the same time, the sources of the Afghan TV channel ToloNews called Norway as a future destination for peace talks. Nevertheless, the platform in Uzbekistan, apparently, is a priority for the Western coalition, taking into account the revitalization of the activities of EU functionaries in the Central Asian direction.

Earlier, the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met the head of the Taliban delegation including Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in Doha and discussed the process of peaceful Afghan settlement, as well as economic assistance to Afghanistan.

On May 15, the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Federica Mogherini announced a communiqué stating that the EU is interested in a new partnership with the republics of Central Asia and updating the strategy of interaction with the region that has existed since 2007.

The July 8 inter-Afghan meeting in Doha was attended by 17 representatives of the Taliban as well as over 50 Afghan political and public figures. The composition of the Kabul delegation was formed on the draft of Berlin, which was directly involved in organizing the meeting.
