Thailand Cave Rescue Underway, But Uncertainty Looms

Cave Rescue operation in Thailand is underway, but uncertain looms over the children’s safety. Rescuers are not sure that they will be able to bring the remaining children to the surface of who are stuck in the cave of Tham Luang Nang Non in Thailand for more than two weeks. This was announced by the former governor of Chiang Rai Province, Narongsak Osotkhanakon.

Eight boys have now been freed in total, while four remain stuck inside the Tham Luang Nang Non Cave with their coach. They now face their 17th night confined on a ledge four kilometers inside the cave.

As for the parents’ visits to the children, Osotkhanakon said that “the doctors allowed them to peep at their children through the window” while they were being quarantined. Children need a thorough medical examination to exclude the spread of a possible infection, which they could have caught in the Khao Luang cave.

Earlier, on 23rd June 2018, 12 schoolchildren aged between 11 to 16 and their 25-year-old coach disappeared in the Tham Luang Nang Non Cave Complex. The cave in which they found themselves, stretches for almost 10 km, has several entrances and exits, as well as large halls where the disappeared have sheltered from the arriving water.
