US Planning New Military Bases in Iraq and Kuwait?

Are the US Armed Forces planning to establish new military bases in Iraq and Kuwait? According to speculations by the Iranian PressTV with reference to the Iraqi media, US plans to establish a military base in the conflict-hit regions of the Middle East and keep an eye on Iran and Syria.

According to the Iranian and Iraqi Media reports, the United States plans to create a military base in the Iraqi province of Anbar to control the road connecting Baghdad with Damascus, as well as beyond the territories in the west of the country.

It is noted that the military base will be the third in the province, along with air bases Ain al-Assad and Habbaniya. The US forces will also open a military base in Kuwait, which will become the main logistics center and the largest landing point in the Middle East.

The US withdrew its forces from Iraq in December 2011 and returned to the country in August 2014 after the seizure of the country’s territory by militants of the terrorist group Islamic State. Iraqi Prime Minister Heydar Al-Abadi announced victory over the group in December 2017. The operation to eliminate ISIS terrorists was carried out with the support of the US coalition. In early February, al-Abadi said that Baghdad had adopted a plan to gradually reduce the presence of the alliance.
