The United States announced the resumption of issuing American visas to Turkish citizens. The US embassy in Ankara called the security situation in Turkey “sufficiently favorable” for the resumption of the process of issuing visas to Turkish citizens, the Turkish state news agency Anadolu reported.
The United States had earlier stopped issuing all non-immigrant visas to Turkish nationals after the arrest of one of its consulate employees. The employee of US consulate was arrested over suspected links to a cleric blamed for last year’s failed coup in Ankara.
The US embassy drew attention to the fact that since October 2017, the Turkish authorities did not initiate any new actions or investigations against US consulate members in Turkey. “Ankara has assured the US at the highest level about the cessation of arrests or any further investigation of any embassy staff of US consulate general – the representatives of the US embassy said.
US-Turkey Conflict: Now Turkey Suspends Visa for US Citizens
Ankara assured the US that in the future that Turkish authorities will notify Washington in advance about any possible detention/investigation of any US embassy staff member in Turkey. “In response to assurances from the Turkish side, the US State Department came to the conclusion that the security situation in Turkey is quite good for the resumption of visa services, the embassy officials said.
