Interpol President Meng Hongwei, who also holds the position of Deputy Minister of Public Security in the People’s Republic of China, has been bee detained by Chinese authorities.

Meng Hongwei whose detention in China was reported earlier is suspected of violating the country’s law which the Chinese authorities are investigating. This was reported on Sunday on the website of the Central Commission of the Communist Party of China for Discipline Inspection.
“Meng Hongwei, Deputy Minister of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China, is suspected of violating the law, at present, the State Supervision Committee is conducting an inspection in his regard,” the report says.
According to AFP, the last time he got in touch was a week ago. The prosecutor’s office of the city of Lyon (central France) initiated an investigation into the disappearance of the president of Interpol.
Earlier, the Chinese edition of the South China Morning Post confirmed that Meng Hongwei was under investigation in China. As the newspaper pointed out, the President of Interpol was taken for interrogation immediately upon arrival in China on September 29.
