Japan To Equip Troops with Cybernetic Attack Technology: Media Reports

The Japanese government is considering the possibility of equipping the troops of the national Self-Defense Forces with technology that would allow them to carry out cybernetic attacks. This was reported on Sunday by the newspaper Mainichi Shimbun.

Currently, the Japanese Defense Ministry is developing relevant provisions that should be ready by the end of this year.

It is noted that in tight of the increasing dependence on communication networks, the importance of cyberspace in the conditions of modern warfare is critical.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the current constitution will prohibit the use of cybernetic attacks for offensive purposes – the National Self-Defense Forces will be able to use these technologies only in response to a corresponding attack on Japan by a potential enemy.

Cybernetics is a transdisciplinary approach for exploring regulatory systems—their structures, constraints, and possibilities. In simpler terms, it is the scientific study of how humans, animals and machines control and communicate with each other.
