Kashmir Dispute Will Lead to India-Pakistan Nuclear Showdown: PaK

Set up a stage for the resolution of Kashmir, “before the two nuclear-armed states indulge in a ‘full-fledged war’ which will be a monumental disaster that will engulf not only the region but other parts of the world ~ Khan

Is India-Pakistan Nuclear War Possible over the Kashmir dispute? President of Pakistan controlled Kashmir Sardar Masood Khan sounded alarm bells by saying that Indian obstinacy on the Kashmir issue could bring both nuclear-armed states to another war.

Khan made these statements while addressing a delegation of the 48th Pakistan Navy Staff Course participants at Aiwan-e-Saddar on Tuesday. He highlighted the inhuman atrocities in Kashmir and Indian shelling on the civilian population living along the Line of Control (LoC).

According to The Express Tribune Khan said that “Pakistan has always sought peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue through dialogues, but India is adamant to settle the issue through military might by suppressing the voice of Kashmiri people for their internationally recognized right to self-determination.”

Khan called for the United Nations and world powers to intervene, to set up a stage for the resolution of Kashmir, “before the two nuclear-armed states indulge in a ‘full-fledged war’ which will be a monumental disaster that will engulf not only the region but other parts of the world.”

He highlighted the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA) as draconian laws. AFSPA was implemented in 1990. It is an emergency law that gives legal cover to the armed forces engaged in counter-insurgency operations from prosecution.

In March this year, India’s Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said that security forces can cross over the LoC, if needed to protect the country’s territorial integrity. He made it very clear that ‘Jammu and Kashmir remain an integral part of India’.

NDTV highlighted the home minister saying “India wants to maintain friendly relations with Pakistan but that country was not keen for it, rather giving ‘political legitimacy’ to Mumbai terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed.”

Things heated up between India and Pakistan in September 2016 when the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes at terror launch pads across the LoC. While Pakistan maintains that nothing as such happened, India has voiced that similar strikes would happen in the near future if Pakistani terrorists continued to infiltrate its borders.
