Is Zakir Musa – The Dreaded Kashmiri Militant Behind Amritsar Grenade Attacks?

Is Zakir Musa – the notorious Kashmiri Militant – behind the Amritsar grenade attacks that left three people dead? Days after the Punjab police released posters of Zakir Musa, the chief of Jammu and Kashmir based Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind terror outfit, there has been a terror attack in Amritsar, in the Indian state of Punjab.

Earlier Gurdaspur police officer Swarandeep Singh. stated: “We had inputs about his (Zakir Musa’s) movements near Amritsar. So we have released wanted posters of him to make public aware and have requested them to tell us if they have any information,”

The Punjab Police are on their toes after the intelligence agencies had issued a letter stating that seven members of the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed were believed to be sighted in Ferozepur.

“We had inputs that some Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists have infiltrated in Punjab through Ferozepur, so we have taken precautionary measures. Extra forces have been deployed along the border. Checking of vehicles is underway,” the officer said.

Amritsar Attacks

Three people were killed and 15 injured in the attack at the Nirankari Bhawan, a prayer hall in Rajasansi village, just eight kilometers from the Amritsar airport. According to eyewitnesses, two bike-borne men with faces covered threw a grenade at the prayer hall where a religious ceremony was on.

Punjab Director General of Police Suresh Arora said that there appears to be a terror angle to the incident. “Because it is against a group of people and it is not against any individual. There is no reason to throw a hand grenade on a group of people, so we will take it as a terrorist act. Till proven otherwise, prima facie we will take it like that.”

Involvement of Zakir Musa

IG Surinder Pal Singh has confirmed that the attack was indeed done through grenades, and the attackers did not use any weapon, even though they had them. He further ruled out the involvement of Zakir Musa in this incident.

“There might be a terror angle here. We will look into it. This is a very unfortunate incident. We will get to the bottom of this incident. This is a Nirankari Satsang which takes place in every village. They were never the target. This is the first time they have targeted the people of Nirankari Satsang. They targeted Nirankari Satsang people because they knew that they don’t have any security. There could be a Khalistan or ISI link, he added.
