Pakistani Rangers Attack BSF Posts; India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate After Pulwama Attacks

Pakistan Rangers are attacking at the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) posts almost on a daily basis. The exchange of fire between Pakistani Rangers and Indian BSF has led to tensions near the International Border especially after the deadly Pulwama attacks which killed 44 Indian paramilitary forces of the CRPF.

Recently, Pakistan opened fire with small arms on the Indian Border Security Force posts in the Arnia sector in Jammu. This has led to the tension on the International Border (IB) from past 15 days.  According to BSF sources, the Rangers are daily targeting different posts along the 198-km International Border.

The BSF sources emphasised saying, “Tension has been rising near the IB for the last 15 days, but the men guarding the border are alert and equipped to deal with any untoward situation”.

“Pakistan is resorting to firing daily. It is trying to provoke Indian forces with small arms but the BSF is retaliating with small calibre arms only. The Indian force never fires unless they (Rangers) start it,” the sources added.

Since the beginning of this year, Pakistan has continuously violated ceasefire on the International Border. On January 15, the Assistant Commandant Vinay Prasad was killed in sniper fire in the Samba sector.

Last year, recorded the highest 2,936 ceasefire violations by Pakistan with an average of eight cases daily. As many as 61 persons were killed and over 250 injured in the ceasefire violations.
