India and Qatar’s diplomatic ties go back to 1973. According to the Diplomat much of Qatar’s working force consists of labor from India and other South Asian countries; about 630,000 of Qatar’s two million inhabitants come from India.

Relations between the Gulf region and India grew stronger during the British Raj, when they acquired a strategic-military component in addition to an economic one.
