US Democratic Party Challenges Trump’s Decision Over US-Mexico Border Wall

Donald Trump’s move to build the controversial US-Mexico Border Wall will be challenged by the Democrats. The US-Mexico Border Wall issue resulted in a national emergency is the case of constitutional violation, stated the Democrats.

US Flooded by Illegal Indian Immigrants via the US-Mexico Border

US President’s move bypassing Congress represented a new approach to a 2016 presidential campaign promise to halt the flow of immigrants into the country, which Trump has declared essential for national security. The move would help Trump get $5.7 billion for the construction of the US-Mexico Border Wall.

Trump was also expected to sign a bipartisan government spending Bill that would prevent another partial shutdown by funding several agencies that otherwise would have closed.  Trump made no direct mention in his Rose Garden comments of the funding Bill, which serves as a legislative defeat for him since it contains no money for his proposed wall.

Trump’s request that Congress provide him with $5.7 billion for US-Mexico Border Wall as part of legislation to fund the agencies triggered a government shutdown that affected the US economy and his opinion poll numbers. Trump now risks plunging into a lengthy battle with Democrats and dividing his fellow Republicans by pushing his wall-funding quest toward a legally uncertain strategy.

Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic speaker of the House of Representatives, and Chuck Schumer, the Senate’s top Democrat, reacted to Trump’s declaration saying, “The President’s actions violate the Congress’ exclusive power of the purse, which our Founders enshrined in the Constitution. We will defend our constitutional authorities in the Congress, in the courts, and in the public, using every remedy available.”
